Quiz Team

The Ash U3A Quiz Group operates in a different way to most groups in that we do not meet regularly; instead the members form a pool of quizzers who represent the U3A at local events.

Throughout the year, I look out for quiz nights then contact members in rotation when one is due and make up a team from those who are available. This means the people making up the team, and thus their specialist knowledge, is different every time.

At the moment we attend several quizzes a year in local venues which raise money for local organisations and we take part in the annual U3A Challenge cup in Hartley Wintney. All quizzes charge an entry fee which is payable by the individual not the U3A and winnings (often just Smarties!) are kept by the individual.

So if you are a keen quizzer and would like to be added to a pool of people who can be called upon to represent us, please get in touch with me Jane Morgan 01252 311498 or janemu3a@gmail.com

Latest news from the quiz team.

September 2017. We are back and raring to go after the summer break with several quiz nights lined up for the autumn. Watch this space for news of our successes (or otherwise).

March 31st saw Ash U3A fielding three teams in the regular Victoria Hall quiz night. The charity was Wateraid and, as well as our three teams, nine others arrived to compete – the most ever. We all had a fun evening and our teams did very well. More importantly, £500 was raised for this wonderful charity.

Ash U3A acquitted themselves extremely well in the Inter-U3A quiz at Hartley Wintney on Friday 24th March. Twelve teams from across Surrey and Hampshire battled for the cup and the prizes. The Ash team, Reg, Brenda, Judy, Roger, Chris and Jane were in the lead for much of the afternoon but the last two rounds set them back and they ended up coming fourth. Should have played the joker on the James Bond round!

A cream tea was enjoyed at half time at which point the team was leading the field, hence the happy faces.

Two teams of five enjoyed a Friday evening quiz on March 3rd at the Victoria Hall. We were pleased to welcome a new member of the squad and to have some of our regulars back from a long holiday. Both teams acquitted themselves well with one coming second by half a mark! We are always looking for new members so please get in touch if you fancy joining us.
