News From Ash & Tongham Community Wardens
As part of ‘Walkfest’ Guildford Borough Council’s Parks and Countryside team have organised a walk around Lakeside Nature Reserve and then along the Basingstoke Canal to Frimley Lodge Park and back again on Tuesday 19 September, starting at 10am at Lakeside Nature Reserve. You will also be able to hop on board ‘Rosebud’, a 12 seater canal boat, for part of the journey. Guildford Walkfest 2017 aim to encourage people of all ages and abilities to look after their hearts and to get out and about and into the local countryside. The walk is open to all ages and abilities and free to join in. More information attached.
We also have details from Get Active 50+ about a new class, based on the Otago exercise programme – feel stronger and more mobile. There will be a free initial class on Tuesday 26 September 11am at The Benson Room, Japonica Court, Shawfield Road, Ash GU12 6X. After that classes will run from 3 October to 21 November and will be on a £4 per class on a pay as you go system.
These classes are based on the clinically evidenced Otago exercise programme used by health professionals worldwide, these classes can help you feel stronger and more steady, improve your balance and increase your confidence for everyday activities. The classes are suitable for people who can:
- Stand up from a chair independently
- Stand unsupported for up to 5 minutes
- Take part in group exercise
