One Hundredth Surrey Study Day
Celebrating Surrey
From 9.30am until 4pm
At The Menuhin Hall
Organiser: Ian Funnell
To encourage the success of our One Hundredth U3A Study Day, “Celebrating Surrey”, which is on Friday 17th March 2017, we hope that you will not only publicise the study day as broadly as possible but also take the opportunity of emphasising the value that U3A membership brings to our communities across Surrey. It would help considerably if you could let your local media outlets know about the Study Day and the opportunities that joining U3A brings. Guests as well as members will be very welcome to attend the Study Day.
We have also decided to put on a display of photographs of the Surrey countryside in the locality of each of our U3As in Surrey. Please would you invite your photographic group to send in their best examples of the beauty of your locality? If I suggest between six and ten images from each U3A we will be able to make a rolling display for showing in the concert hall during the breaks in the programme. We will also arrange to have some images printed for display in the foyer of the Menuhin Hall.
The best way to submit the images will be as attachments by email with files at full image resolution to me by Friday 10th February, five weeks before the study day. They can also be sent by Dropbox if that is more convenient. Application forms for the study day have previously been circulated and forms are also available as downloadable pdf files on the Surrey Network website at http://u3asites.org.uk/surreyu3anetwork/ .
We are delighted to have Mr Michael More-Molyneux DL, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, opening the study day and giving a talk on his role in Surrey life. We have also been delighted to accept an offer of a recital by pupils of the Yehudi Menuhin School during the morning; the full programme is shown below.
The Role of the Lord Lieutenant by Michael More-Molyneux
Surrey Poems for the Occasion by John Griffin
The Archaeology of Surrey by Jon Cotton, Museum of London
A short recital by pupils of the Yehudi Menuhin School
Leith Hill Place by Anna Trenter, National Trust
Break for lunch and cutting of celebratory cake
The University of Surrey by Greg Melly, Senior Vice President
The Surrey Landscape by James Herd, Surrey Wildlife Trust
Best wishes to you and your members for the Christmas season.
Yours sincerely
Ian Funnell – Study Day Committee Chairman
