Constitution Update

In 2017 the Charity Commission published a model constitution for an unincorporated charity. This model has been adapted by the Third Age Trust and was issued in 2021 with a recommendation for adoption by all u3as.

The current constitution of Ash u3a was adopted in Aug 2019 at the AGM using an older model and whilst still legal does contain a number of clauses better served by the 2021 model constitution (it gives us more freedom and flexibility).

The committee has reviewed and updated the 2021 model constitution so that it applies to Ash u3a.

Note: The 2021 model constitution has been approved the by the Third Age Trust’s legal team. We are advised to only make minor adjustments to suit our needs.

All Ash u3a members now have an opportunity to review the document and pass any comments to the committee. The sooner you reply the better as this will give us more time to collate and discuss.

Once we have majority agreement the document can be passed to the Third Age Trust and Charity Commission for approval (this is a legal requirement).

If everything goes to plan we can vote in the new constitution at the 2026 AGM.
