Book Worms

Book Worms

This is a very friendly, small group of 7 members and would welcome 1 or 2 more. We generally order books through Ash Library which costs £3.25 for each set. One member pays each month.

Normally we would meet on the last Thursday of each month in a member’s house. Due to the Covid-19 virus, we are unable to meet in person but are keeping the group going by holding virtual meetings on ‘zoom’, but watch this space as it should change soon! We read for enjoyment and friendship and zoom has helped us stay in touch through these difficult times. The next meeting is:

  • Thursday 29th April at 10 a.m.

Some of the books we have read:

  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
  • This Sweet Sickness y Patricia Highsmith
  • The Man I Thought I Know by Mike Gayle
  • Summertime by Vanessa Lafaye
  • A Man called Ove by Fredrik Backman
  • Three Sisters, Three Queens by Philippa Gregory
  • Ending Up by Kingsley Amis
  •  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • Coming Up Trumps by Jean Trumpington
  • The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

We have mostly enjoyed all the books so far; giving them fairly high scores out of 10. We all agree that since joining the group we are reading more and experiencing new authors that we would perhaps not otherwise have looked at.

For April we are reading Shuttlecock by  Graham Swift.

Later in the year we may choose from the following:

  • Room by Emma Donoghue
  • Murder on a Thursday by Richard Osman
  • My Judy Garland Life by Susie Boyt
  • One of Andrea Levy’s novels
