Bringing People Together

Photography Group March Meeting

We had good turnout of 22 members at our seventh Photography Group meeting of the 2025–2026 session, held on Friday 13th March. We reviewed members’ submissions for the theme “Winter Views”, led by Ali. In total, 71 photographs were submitted by 23 members. The images covered a wide range of winter scenes, from deep snow and delicate frost patterns to light dustings of snow and frost. Several members captured atmospheric misty landscapes or the more familiar wet and flooded conditions of an English winter. There were also some striking images taken on those occasional crisp, bright days with clear blue skies. Here are a few of the images reviewed.

The meeting continued with a commentary session, based on images submitted for discussion. Topics included techniques for removing distractions and cropping images to improve composition and impact. A demonstration was also given showing how increasing contrast and sharpening in black-and-white photographs can enhance both detail and overall visual effect. The meeting concluded with a slideshow by Dave Thomas showcasing the stunning display of snowdrops that can be seen at Welford Park in late winter.
