Photography Group September Meeting

Our first meeting of the new session, held on Friday 11^th September 2026, started with an enthusiastic gathering and an excellent turnout of 26 members and visitors. We reviewed members’ submissions on the theme of “Signs”. A total of 64 photographs were submitted by 22 members. Humorous signs, including warnings and place names; signs that few had seen before and that required explanation; thought-provoking signs related to war or disease; and signs carrying implications that were open to interpretation.

After the break, Paul H gave us a short talk featuring four images about his night photography course in London, using a slow shutter speed. This had the effect of smoothing the water and intensifying the light reflections on the River Thames. Here is one of them:

We then watched 2 videos to provide inspiration for the next theme “Geometric Shapes and Patterns”. It helped to highlight that there are patterns everywhere, not always easily seen but can enhance an image.
