Bringing People Together

A Town Called Solace by Mary Lawson

A Town Called Solace

Another great book this month, universally enjoyed by all our bookworms. The story and writing style were engaging with just enough mystery to keep us hooked. It’s the second Mary Lawson the club has read and this one went down better than “The other side of the Bridge” (which scored 7.1) as this one scored 8.25 on average.

Eight-year-old Clara, isolated by her distraught parents’ efforts to protect her from the truth, is grief-stricken and bewildered. Liam Kane, newly divorced, newly unemployed, newly arrived in this small northern town, moves into the house next door and within hours gets a visit from the police. Elizabeth, in hospital nearing the end of her life, looks back on time spent with Liam as a child and events that profoundly affected them both.
