Healthy Walking Puttenham Common
17 Feb 2025
Address: GU3 1BG (Go to Map)
Organised by: Derek Monds
Puttenham Common, Top Car Park, so the walk will therefore be just a bit hilly in places.
Further information from Derek:
Eileen and I have checked the walked for the 17th Feb and we want to let you know the following.
- When you get to Puttenham please do not take any notice of the Road Closed signs as the road is open all the way to the car park where we are meeting. It's about ½ a mile further on where the road is closed.
- The walk on Monday will be a bit shorter than usual, only just over 2.5 miles, but as it's on Puttenham common there are some bits that are a bit hilly, nothing too strenuous though.
- Obviously following all the wet weather we have had, some of the footpaths are a bit muddy. So we recommend the following;
- If you have Walking Poles and like to use them do bring the, some of the hilly bits are muddy and can be a bit slippery.
- The hilly slippery bit really do need shoes that have some grip in the sole, I would not recommend trying it in flat soled shoes.
- Quite a bit of the walk is on well drained sandy footpaths so it's not all muddy.
- Most of the muddy bits can be avoided by walking on the sides of the footpaths, that is where stronger supportive shoes are useful.
Having said all that, it's an enjoyable walk and not too difficult, the above is just to warn you all.
For Sat Nav users the nearest Post Code is GU3 1BG; but be careful as that will take you about ½ mile past the top car park to the middle car park.
If you use Google Sat Nav, type into the search bar 6847+XX Guildford (known as a Plus Code) this will direct you to the centre of the top car park, just where you need to be. That will not work in ‘Waze’ Sat Nav & not sure about the Apple Sat Nav.
Directions :- From the ‘Dover Garage’ take the A323 towards Guildford, at the traffic lights take the right fork, then just over half a mile take the right turning at Wyke Church. Then two miles and at the top of the steep hill turn Right onto the B3000. After approx. 1/3 mile turn Right to Puttenham, after ¼ mile turn Left, continue for approx. 1 ¼ miles and at the top of the hill on a slight right bend the car park is on the right
