Ramble 22nd October – Tilford Area

The fortnightly Ash u3a ramble on Wednesday 22nd October was blessed with good weather on a fine Autumnal morning.

Half way break on banks of southern branch of River Wey

A group of nine ramblers started from the entrance to the RSPB Reserve at Farnham Heath and then headed through Tankerford Common, another RSPB Reserve, to pick up the southern branch of the River Wey near Pierrepont Farm. They then followed the river back to Tilford where the two branches of the river join. The group continued along the northern branch of the River Wey upstream as far as Sheephatch Lane before returning via Sheephatch Lane to the top ridge of Farnham Heath RSPB Reserve. It was then an easy descent back to the start.

Although the weather was benign and the ramblers traversed two RSPB reserves, there was little avian action on view. However, there were plenty of fungi sprouting from the woodland floors, including some colourful white spotted red fly agaric mushrooms.

Total route length 5.8ml
