Healthy Walking

Our walks are relatively easy, about  3 1/2 to 4 miles taking around 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hours at a steady pace. All walks are planned and led by group members and cover various parts of the lovely countryside around Ash. We finish at our starting points which are often pub car parks, or close by, so refreshments can be enjoyed afterwards with friends and group members.

From the triangular green in Elstead head south on Thursley Rd towards Thursley and Churt, past the Moat Car Park to sharp double bend, right then left . Do not continue round the left bend but keep straight ahead up on lane towards "October Farm" and then on to Car Park which is about 1/2 mile on left at the top of the hill on a double bend. No stiles, sandy in places. Some downs and ups - Reg has kindly volunteered to lead a walk from 5 years ago!

Walk from the Lion Brewery pub on the right of the A323 Guildford Road , heading east from the Dover Garage roundabout. No stiles but walking poles would be useful for a couple of short steepish up hills and for the general squelchiness which is everywhere. The pub will be happy to see us for refreshments afterwards!

Take the A30 pass Bagshot and on through Sunninghill. At the traffic lights at Wentworth Golf Club (just before Virginia Water) turn left into 'Blacknest Road'. After about 1.5 miles (on a left hand bend) the Belvedere Arms is on the right. The car park is just before the pub.

Cost will be £6 per person - to be collected in cash during May ie before this walk. Numbers are limited - our guide, Margaret Hobbs, would prefer only 20 and requires the actual number a week before the walk. The walk will last about 2 hours and tea/coffee and a biscuit will be available at 50p per head. Toilets are available at the Visitor Lodge. Directions from Brookwood traffic lights along Cemetery Pales - the Cemetery has a number of entrances - please ignore the first pair which are together on each side of the road and carry on to the next entrance which is sign posted Cemetery Office.

From Dover Garage roundabout take A323 towards Guildford. At traffic lights keep right. After almost 3 miles turn right into Frog Grove Lane, large white signs on either side 'Wood Street Village'. Then in 1 1/4 miles the village green is on the right and park where you can round the green. Walk takes us through woods, around fields and country lanes. No stiles, mainly flat with one very gentle slope. Post walk refreshments could be in the Royal Oak pub which is just 1/4 mile past the village green.
