Risk Management

The purpose of this document is provide guidance in the management of risk for the Ash u3a committee, activity organisers and members.

It is important to note that everyone is responsible for risk management and compliance. It’s not something you can ignore.

Ash u3a Committee

All the necessary guidance is given in the u3a Risk Management Policy (2023).

Activity Organisers

A risk assessment is to be made for each venue where a u3a activity is taking place. This includes member’s homes, venues and outside locations. The risk assessment will be used to identify any risks and explore how they could be mitigated. Some venues used for meetings/events may already have their own risk assessments. These should be reviewed and where mitigations identified, ensure they are actioned. E.g. a venue may state that no more than 5 chairs should be stacked together and or nothing placed in the way of fire escapes.

Risk assessments are to be kept for 3 years and reviewed at least annually.

Activity organisers have the option to complete an online risk assessment or download the applicable paper version.

The u3a Risk Assessment FAQ (pdf) provides guidance.

Members

All members are to comply with the instructions given by activity organisers and other responsible persons with regards safety and risk mitigation.

Failure to comply may result in a negligence or insurance claim or in exceptional cases a personal claim.
