Our yearly outing ,Guided Tour of Brookwood Military Cemetery, is the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) site in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 37 acres.
This tour will take place on the 111th anniversary of troops, including those from Australia and New Zealand, landing on the peninsula of Gallipoli. The plan was to take Turkey out of the war, but they were met with fierce resistance and eventually evacuated in January 1916. This event is commemorated in both Australia and New Zealand with dawn services in both countries and elsewhere, including the UK. This tour will highlight some of the men from Australia and New Zealand who died in the UK and are buried at Brookwood. A total of 351 Australian and 148 New Zealanders from the 1914-18 war are buried at Brookwood.
