Science & Technology

The Ash u3a Science & Technology Group has been running for over 10 years and continues in 2024 at the St Peters Centre on the first Friday morning of the month.

There is now an Organising Team of:

Bob Ashby – Programme & Talks Co-ordinator

Derek Monds – Registration & Finance admin

Peter Stratford – IT and publicity

Point of Contact: Derek Monds – telephone 01252 337460

To give you an idea of the sort of things covered in our meetings, our 2023 programme included presentations on;  “The Future of Steam in Manufacturing”, “Electric v Fossil Fuel Cars”, and “Gravitational Waves”. The highlight of the year was a visit to the UK National Ion Beam Centre at the University of Surrey. We rounded off 2023 with our traditional Christmas Quiz.

For the 2024 session, the emphasis will be more on Group discussions and shorter presentations by members to ease the load on those volunteering to prepare a topic. Each meeting includes a tea/coffee break for informal discussion and socialising.

Here are the meeting times:

Day:                  First Friday of the month (except where shown).

Time;                From 10:00 to 11:30 am.

Venue;              St Peters Church Hall, (Opposite St Peters, Ash Church Rd, Ash)

Click on the “Find out more” links in the programme listing below for details of our upcoming meetings.

The Group is open to anyone interested in technical issues – you don’t have to be an engineer or scientist to attend – in fact we welcome anyone curious to discover more about historical and current milestones in science and technology or simply to find out how and why things work! There is a small charge each term to cover hall hire and refreshments.

Please telephone Derek for more information on who we are and what our meetings are like.
